A really enjoyable documentary video about Photographer Brian Duffy - who "along with fellow photographers David Bailey and Terence Donovan, captured and in many ways helped to create, the "Swinging London" of the 1960s: a culture of high fashion and celebrity chic. Together the
Terrible Three, as they came to be known by the British press, redefined not only the aesthetic of fashion photography but also the place of the photographer within the industry. Socializing with actors, musicians and royalty, together they represented a new breed of photographer and found themselves elevated to celebrity status."
Duffy gave up photography completely in the late 1970's and made a public spectacle by burning his negs - and hasn’t shown any of his work since 1979. According to this video piece, he never touched a camera again - until recently when his son Chris started going through the shoe boxes of negatives, and saw the potential to put on an exhibit (a first for Duffy). There is suggestion that Duffy has health issues that also prompted his son Chris to get at the exhibit -
which took place in the fall of 2009 at Chris Beetles Gallery in London.
I tried getting hold of the Vimeo video to embed in this post, but was unsuccessful (the BBC no longer is providing it either) - and so you should be able to follow this link to view
