An Effortless way to accept Online Payments from your clients - and look professional doing so:

One of the most valuable webpages that I built and have made available to my clients over the past year, is my Payments Webpage:

www.robertwatcher.com/payments.php

Being that I accept payment for my products and services by Credit Card through my Paypal account, I decided that instead of having to send out an invoice every time someone wanted to pay me with either their Credit Card or by Paypal - I would figure out how to incorporate the "Pay Now" button that Paypal provides, into a custom webpage that anyone can easily access in order to facilitate their payments to me.

Ideally a shopping cart is the best solution - but has to be maintained and would require various shopping carts to handle my different needs. As an example, I now am able to receive my wedding payments and portrait order payments far quicker than my previous method of them sending me a check by mail. If someone wishes to purchase a Gift Certificate, that is made easy with the payments page. If it is a service or advice that I am charging for, that can be accommodated.

I have come to prefer using Paypal for my credit card payments (for simplicity sake) instead of setting up a dedicated Merchant account. I also find Paypal's rates to be competitive for my needs. This Payments Webpage also allows me to provide a little bit of reassurance about the safety of using Paypal for their online payments.

I decided to make this webpage available to all Registered Finch and Chimps members to use and customize as they please.

------

Basic options can be changed at the top of the "payments.php" script by replacing the variables that are there. This is accomplished in a text editing program like "Notepad" in PC or "Text" or "Smultron" in Mac.

Code:
///////////////////////////////////////
// START OF USER CUSTOMIZABLE VARIABLES

$contact_email_address = "contact@yoursite.com";

$return_url = "[url]www.yoursite.com[/url]";   // Do Not Include "http://" or trailing "/" in the Return URL

$paypal_ID = "paypal@yoursite.com";
$paypal_currency_code = "USD";
$paypal_item_name = "Payment for Services and Products";

$page_background_colour = "black";
$box_text_colour = "black";
$box_background_colour = "white";
$box_border_colour = "orange";

// END OF USER CUSTOMIZABLE VARIABLES
/////////////////////////////////////

If you are little bit inclined to mess with the html code, you can even customize the main Form of the webpage to change or add different Paypal options - most are listed here:

https://cms.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/?cmd=_render-content&content_ID=developer/e_howto_html_Appx_websitestandard_htmlvariables

-----------------

The basic Payments webpage looks like this:

By entering a "Return Url", I have provided 2 page display options to let my client know that the transaction has gone through or that there was a failure and payment was not made (or they clicked the Return link on the paypal page). This is the look of the "Success" webpage:

And the webpage with RED banner when the transaction has failed:

Here you can see the default look of the "Payments Webpage" when you unzip the Download Package and upload the "payments.php" webpage to your web server and access it with the full URL ( example - www.yoursite.com/payments.php ):
